License Agreement. Also, ZideCar may not be distributed in conjunction with
any other product, other than SoundZ. The essence of "user-supported"

high prices, and yet to provide incentive for programmers to continue to
develop new products. If you find this program useful and find that you are
using SoundZ & ZideCar and continue to use them after a reasonable trial
period, you must make a registration payment of $45.00 (Plus $4 S&H) to

that this software may be used by any number of people and may be freely moved
from one computer location to another, so long as there is no possibility of
it being used at two or more locations at the same time. Just as one book
cannot be read by two different persons at the same time.

Description
ZideCar is an add on utility made to support the Unicorn Software program
SoundZ. It is designed to work with SoundZ data files to help the home
recorder. It helps you:
*Select songs to fill in on the end of an existing tape (ie You need a song
less than 2:30 by The Rolling Stones to finish off a tape.)
*Build a tape from scratch, based on the music already in SoundZ, and then
uses the data to create a new SoundZ entry, so you don't have to type
everything in twice.
*Totals the times of existing entries and then adds a Continuation line with
the total time.
ZideCar is registered when you register SoundZ, and is not available
separately.
Why?
SoundZ had been in release all of 2 weeks when the letters and electronic mail
started to come in. There was one thing the program did not do that home
recorders wanted: Help with tape building and filling.
Rather than force all users of the program carry the extra weight of these
features if they did not want them; we created an add on program to handle
these functions.
Enjoy

-ZideCar 1-
Getting Started:
You need to copy the ZIDECAR.EXE file to the same drive/sub directory as your
SOUNDZ.EXE file. If you have not installed and initialized SoundZ yet, you
must do this BEFORE using ZideCar. ZideCar uses the same defaults as SoundZ,
so there is no function to set these from within ZideCar.
The System:
Is designed using KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) so not much information is
needed to get started. Here are a few notes to help you use the system:
Universals:
The [ESC] key will take you back one menu/screen (Mouse Users use Right
Button).
The box in the upper right hand corner of the screen will contain information
on how to move around, and data entry tips.
The last line of the screen will tell you what the highlighted option does.
All menu entries can be selected with the light bar, or by pressing the first
letter of the option (Mouse Users when highlited the Left Button will activate
the option).
The [F1] key will bring up the LinerNoteZ Help Screen (Mouse Users: Hit the
Middle Button).
Build A Tape:
This function allows you to build a tape from scratch based on the information
you have in your SoundZ data files.
After selection of this option a selections screen will appear.
Selections:
You can choose the All, Artist, Title, Reference #, Category, any of the User
Defined fields, Dates, Price/Value, Format or KomboZ to select a criteria of.
Remember that 'Close Nuf' applies here too. So by selecting Artists named Bob
you would get all of Bob Mea's Titles but also Bob Wallace, Bob Redford, etc.
KomboZ:
Selecting this entry on the Selections screen will let you combine up to four
criteria. For example you want a listing of all CDs that are in Category A
and by The Beach Boys. Select the Format option from the KomboZ screen and
enter "C", then select the Category entry from the KomboZ screen, when you do
that you will have the choice of making an And/Or statement (Choose And in
this example), then type in A. Finally, select the Artist entry, choose {A}nd
again, then you can enter the Beach Boys. The program will find all records
meeting that Criteria and take you to the Labels&Listings menu or display it
on the screen. (If you had selected Or in the above example you would have
gotten all records for Category A or any done by the Beach Boys {even those
not category A})
A more complex example would be Category A or Category B and User Code D and
-ZideCar 2-
Title A. (You would get all Categories A or B with the Code D and the title
beginning with A.)
Close 'Nuf:
When you enter the Title, Artist, User Defined Fields, etc you do not have to
enter the entire thing. For example when entering a title you wish to deal
with you do not have to enter the full Title, only the first few words, or
even letters. In Change, this will allow you to view all the records that are
Close 'Nuf to what you entered. EXAMPLE: Entering "Meet" will bring up "Meet
Me", "Meet The Beatles" and "I'll Meet You On The Other Side"
After making your selection, you will be prompted for the time you wish for
Side A. Enter the time using the standard audio format: 3:20 would be 3
minutes, 20 seconds. A Picks screen will then appear.
Picks Screen:
This screen will display up to eight tunes that match your selection and are
equal to or less than the time you entered. For each pick you will be given
the tune title, time, and the title of the selection that contains that tune.
To pick one just enter the number beside it. When you do that the number of
the pick for your side will appear to the far right side of the time
information. Also, the time will be subtracted from the time you entered for
the length of the tape side (This is displayed in the upper right hand side of
the screen). If your selection is longer than the time you have left, you
will hear a beep and that Tune will not be selected.
To deselect a tune simply select the number again. WARNING: If you make 2 or
three selections and then decide you do not want the tune selected as #1. You
may deselect that tune, but the rest of the numbers will not change to reflect
the fact it is missing. However, the Tunes will still come out in order.
To go to the next screen just hit [PgDn} and the next eight will appear.
[PgUp] will give you a SecondLook, FirstLook or ThirdLook. These are the
tunes on Side B, Side A, or CD respectively.
[ESC] will abort the build a tape process.
When you are done with selections for Side A, enter "999" to lock in those
Picks.
You will then be prompted for a Side B time, repeat the above steps for Side
B.
When you have completed the selection process for your tape, you will have the
option of printing, viewing or writing to a file the results of that process.
{P}rint - will provide you with a print out of the Reference#, Title, and Tune
for each item you selected. This can help you find the tunes you need to
create the tape.
{F}ile - Provides the same as {P}rint but written to the ASCII file
ZIDEBILD.TXT.
{S}creen - Same information as above but provided on screen. The same editing
-ZideCar 3-
commands used for LinerNoteZ all work here.
Once you have the information retrieved, you are asked if you want to add the
information to your SoundZ data file.
Along with the Tune info, a continuation line will be added to each tune with
the Artist name, this can be deleted later by simply blanking out that line.
But you may find that useful when creating a tape with several Artists.
Also, all continuation lines form the source will be added to the file (these
are not displayed on the outputs above).
If you answer "Y", all the tune information will be copied to your SoundZ data
file. After the copy is complete, you will be allowed to enter the Header
Info, and LinerNoteZ for that tape. (See the SoundZ manual for more info)
Find Filler:
This function helps you fill up a tape. It will allow you to make Selections
(as above) and then enter a time that you want to find. ie You need 5:00 of
filler, the Picks screen will display any tune you have (based on your
selection) that is equal to or less then 5:00 minutes.
Picks Screen:
NOTE: The Picks screen for Filler does not display the time left as above. All
functions are the same as above.
When you have completed the selection process for your Filler, you will have
the option of printing or writing to a file the results of that process. If
you have found the information you need on screen just hit the [ESC] key to
abort the output process.
{P}rint - will provide you with a print out of the Reference#, Title, Tune,
and time information for each item you selected. This can help you find the
tunes you need for Filler.
{F}ile - Provides the same as {P}rint but written to the ASCII file
ZIDEFILL.TXT.
{S}creen - Same information as above but provided on screen. The same editing
commands used for LinerNoteZ all work here.
Total Times:
This option will add together the times for ALL entries in your SoundZ data
file. It will then add a continuation line to each Tune section with the
total time for each side or CD.
Convert 2.10b:
This option converts all of your old Time data from SoundZ versions prior to
2.10c to a format usable by ZideCar.
Notes:
1. Your old data file MUST have the time entry as the last continuation line
for the tune for the Build A Tape and Find Filler options to work. This
-ZideCar 4-
function will work, as will the Total Times no matter which continuation line
the Time information falls on.
2. The Time lines first character MUST be a "*" followed by the time
information, ie "*2:30". If you have added extra spaces or characters you
must remove/alter these manually for ZideCar to work, ie "* Time= 2:30" will
be ignored as not being time information.
3. Information that you may have included on the time line will still be
usable if it is listed behind the time, ie "*2:30 Of the Best".
Technical Assistance & Latest Versions:
Both registered and unregistered Users can obtain technical assistance by
calling (219) 563-HOME (4663). Unregistered Users will need to provide the
name and address of where they obtained the software from in order to gain
this assistance. This will let us go back to that company if they are
distributing an older version and it helps us track who is distributing the
program. The number is manned (by a human) from 6:00 to 9:00 PM EST, all
other hours by an answering machine.
